The HP Envy 23xt Beats Limited Edition All-in-one is red. Beat-red, if you'll pardon the pun. I liked the color and information technology reminded me just how boring electronic colored has become. Witting to inspire the undeveloped DJ with good audio frequency and some creative music applications so much equally eDJing, and Music Maker Jam, the Beatniks AIO has a very courteous 1080p IPS touch screen display and thin-sounding Beat generation Audio speakers. Nongranular enough to make finished for the unit's slow hard driving? Not in my book. Even the Hybrid SSD/HD offered as a $50 climb on this whole South Korean won't cut the mustard for me. And with this AIO costing close to a grand…

The Beats AIO's major strength is audio frequency. Let's start there. The hardest thing to knock off audio is accurately reproduce middle-range frequencies, which along with transients and overtones, is where the individual eccentric of singable instruments resides. The speakers in the Beats AIO actually do a surprisingly best job; sound is distortion-free of and relatively undyed. There's a decent total of bass, but IT's not rumble-y like a sub-woofer, and the high-end is as comprehendible as anything I've heard in integrated PC speakers.

One touch we appreciate is the integrated headphone hanger that slides kayoed. And yes, the hanger is compatible with headsets other than Beats Audio as well.

Component-wise, the $899 (discounted from $999) base pose of the Beatniks AIO we tested likewise has close to strong points, including an Intel Congress of Racial Equality i5 4460T, 8GB of DDR3/1600 memory, and the aforementioned 1920×1080 show which renders movies nicely. It's prone to glare as all touch displays are, so you'll want to decrease the close lighting a bit for optimal viewing. There's also a DVD burner along board. Options include faster processors (the Burden i5 4590t and Core i7 4785T), a Blu-Shaft burner, and up to 16GB of system memory.

The weak point is the storage subsystem. Our unit shipped with a 5,400 revolutions per minute Seagate ST1000LM024. That's a 2.5-inch laptop drive and CrystalDiskMark rated it at about 106MBps reading and  writing, which is slow, simply it seemed even slower in factual usance—the system booted slow and effortful when opening and closing programs. There's the said option for hybrid SSD/HD which would probably help some, but in PCWorld's examination, loanblend drives never succeed, either subjectively or objectively. Trust me on this, what you genuinely want is an SSD and alas, you can't get one with this AIO.

PCMark rated the Beat generation AIO at 2704 in the un-accelerated Work examination and 2376 in the Creative test. Gaming was typical Intel HD 4600—OK for older or less realistic stuff, only unsuitable for any modern game. Only Water ice Tempest Extreme had acceptable frame rates, and that's the sixth most modifier 3D Distinguish test fashioned for far weaker mobile devices. Encoding a 30GB MKV/H.264 file to Android tablet format took 2 hours and 6 minutes. Near norm for this Central processing unit—with a slow hard drive.

The back of the Envy 23XT Beats also features a striking red kick sales booth and well atomic number 3 Gigabit ethernet, HDMI and USB ports.

Design-wise, the Beats AIO is a well-favored unit with a hefty kickstand, and as I mentioned up top, the red grows on you. There's even a handy hook that pulls out from the left side for you to hang your matching Beats headphones connected. Some time you make an AIO that prohibits access to the desktop space behind it, you've missed the breaker point, which is increasing your usable desk space by reducing your computer's footmark. Additionally, the keyboard and black eye that HP shipped with our Beats AIO weren't titled to cope with, and their quality was OK at best. Also, both peripherals are wired, which knocks down the available USB connectivity from vi to four ports. There are receiving set upgrades, merely Horsepower didn't send U.S. any so I can't tell you if they're titled to match or battery hogs. Just for a mere $10, I say go for them.

The stylish H.P. Enviousness 23XT Beats Uncommon Edition experience is marred by unrefined grade corded mouse and keyboard and perhaps one of the slowest hard drives we've ever seen.

While I'm sort of on the subject, additional ports admit an SD card expansion slot, a headset jack, and an HDMI output. Wi-Fi on our unit was 802.11 b/g/n, but an AC upgrade is only $10. What's with the $10 mint? Consent that cardinal as well.

Fire engine ruddy, Christmas scarlet, beat-learn, if only HP had invest an SSD in this PC. IT's dainty-looking, sounds good and the screen door is decent. But the overriding opinion I took out from it was how delayed it booted and programs installed and discriminatory. I've belabored the point, but with a PC this expensive, a slow hard drive wish causa buyer remorse. Add an SSD option HP!
